Principal's Message

Thank you for visiting our webpage!

My name is Patricia Hanson I am the proud principal of the Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy (MSTMA) at Roosevelt High School. I am excited to join the MSTMA family as we start this historic year together. MSTMA is returning to in-person learning in our new classrooms spaces as our campus is being renovated to ensure our students and staff have state of the art facilities to thrive in.

MSTMA is located on the iconic Roosevelt High School campus, home of the mighty Rough Riders in the heart of historic Boyle Heights. Our students have access to state of the art athletics facilities, laboratories, state of the art teaching and technology. They also have access to a broad range of electives such as AP Calculus, Ethnic Studies, Robotics, AP World History, AP English, AP Spanish, Bio-Technology; they also have access to after school extracurriculars such as football, volleyball, basketball, water polo, Robotics, Mariachi Band, Peer Leadership and other clubs.

MSTMA is focused on building school and family relationships, Culturally Responsive Practices and most importantly student learning.

We depend on our families to learn how better to support students; we have monthly coffee with the principal meetings, parent workshops and other opportunities for parents to be directly involved in shaping our school.  Our community partners such as College Track, I.am Angel Foundation and the LA Partnership for Los Angeles School provide additional dynamic learning experiences and real world opportunities for all of our students.

Our curriculum is both rigorous and nurturing. Our test scores are among the best in the district. Our school is recognized for our use of technology to equip students in their pursuits to advocate for and create the resources to support local communities. MTSMA is considered the 5th best school in LAUSD and is one of the nations best according to the U.S. News and World Report.

Our use of restorative justice practices ensures that all students are a part of our school culture.  I look forward to partnering with all MSTMA students, parents and staff as we navigate this school year.
