Application Dates and Deadlines


Missed Deadlines Mean Missed Opportunities!

Community Colleges:

  • Apply as soon as they open or before March 1st
  • Apply online or hard copy if the deadline has passed
  • For California Community Colleges use: cccapply.org

(For out-of-state schools, check their website)

  • No Transcript or test scores needed
  • No essay or application fee

 

California State Universities:

  • Apply October 1-November 30th
  • Apply online: www.calstate.edu/apply,
  • Need your transcript
  • SAT or ACT required
  • No Application Essay or Additional information needed for application
  • Application Fee: $55 or Fee Waiver

 

University of California:

  • Application available starting August 1st
  • Apply August 1 – November 30th (Can’t submit until November 1)
  • Apply online: universityofcalifornia.edu
  • Need your transcript
  • SAT or ACT required- 2 SAT Subject Exams recommended
  • 4 Short Answer Statements, activities, awards, volunteer service and work experience included with the application
  • Application Fee: $70 or Fee Waiver

 

Private/Independent or Out of State Universities:

  • Deadlines vary: Depending on Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision
  • Apply online: commonapp.org  or on the school’s website
  • Need your transcript
  • SAT or ACT usually required
  • Personal Statement, activities, awards, volunteer service and work experience included with the application
  • Need 2 letters of recommendation
  • Application Fee: Varies or Fee Waiver

 

Acceptances to Colleges:

  • Most colleges do not notify students of acceptances until the spring.
  • Generally, students are notified before March 31, 2021.
  • Students are usually notified through the college’s Portal or through email.
  • Always keep in touch with the schools and check your Portals or email in order to keep current with what they want you to do.
  • Some colleges will ask for mid-year transcripts.                    

 

Financial Aid

  • October 1, 2020- March 3, 2020
  • FAFSA and Cal Grant Verification: The application can be found at:  fafsa.ed.gov .
  • For students without a Social Security Number: Complete the California Dream Application. Application can be found at:  https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.
  • Private Schools: Some need the CSS Profile: Due in February (see Ms. Sutuc)
  •                              

Notice of Financial Aid

  • Generally, students are notified before April 15, 2021.
  • Update your FAFSA as soon as your parents file their taxes. You must link your FAFSA to the IRS tax forms your family completed.
  • Make an account with: webgrants4students.org to keep track of your Cal Grant and notify them when you graduate.

 

Placement Tests

Many colleges and universities require placement tests. They are usually English and math. Check your school’s website to see which ones are required and when you have to take them.  Some schools will NOT accept you/DISENROLL you if you miss the placement test deadlines.

 

Student Intent to Register  (SIR)

Students must notify the college/university they are planning to attend before May 1, 2021.

 

Deadline to Send Final Transcripts

Arrange to have Ms. Sutuc send final transcripts before the deadline of July 15, 2021.

 

Reminders to Students:  DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

  • Apply broadly to a wide-range of colleges.
  • Always check your emails and follow the directions given by the schools.
  • Open up an email account with your colleges (or Portals) and check regularly.
  • Keep a calendar of all the deadlines. Don’t miss them!
  • Talk to the College counselor immediately if there is a problem or question.
